Aviodrome surprises 200,000th visitor exhibition with flight in classic aircraft

Fly-in-days at Aviodrome this summer will see up close how rare aircraft arrive and depart and ther will be special activities. Next Saturday, 20 July, the so-called trainers will kick off.

This day, several teaching and training aircraft will visit Aviodrome, including a DA-40 from the KLM Flight Academy from Eelde. Aviodrome's DA-40 simulator will be seen in action as will several Saab Safirs and Piper Super Cubs. Two double-deckers will also visit: a Boeing Stearman and a Tiger Moth. The Early Birds Foundation will participate with interesting aircraft and Fokker Four will make a local flight. Visitors can abseil from the Boeing 747.

'The Fly-ins are a wonderful addition to a visit to this museum', says Roy Ymker, Aviodrome's new general manager since June. 'It is a unique opportunity for our visitors to see the historic aircraft in action, to experience what it is like to put out fires or to abseil from an aircraft.'

Grumman Tracker

The trainers' weekend will be followed by operational days on 27 July and 10 August. Among other things, these days will see the engines of the Grumman Tracker being started up and the folding and unfolding of its wings: this aircraft used to fly from an aircraft carrier, among other places, and thanks to folded wings it could be transferred to the lower hangar deck with a large lift.

The sightseeing flights with the Dutch Dakota Association's (DDA) Douglas DC-3 PH-PBA will depart from the Aviodrome on the weekends of 3 and 4 and 24 and 25 August. This is the last chance to see flying in this aircraft from Lelystad, reports Ymker. 'Later this year, the DDA will cease their operations.'

Heroes

On 17 and 18 August, Aviodrome will be all about Rescue Heroes. Among others, the police helicopter and drones will be present, and on Sunday the trauma helicopter of ANWB MAA and the plane, a Dash 8, of the Coast Guard will visit. During the weekend, both regular and airport firefighters will give demonstrations on two scrap cars. Visitors can also learn how to put out fires themselves from the men and women of the fire brigade.

Fly-ins are included in admission. Ticket holders of the Museum Card or De Vriendenloterij VIP-KAART have free admission. Occasionally, due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, the Fly-ins may not take place or in a modified version. Aviodrome's website and social media channels will have the latest updates.
