Three fly-in weekends with historic aircraft at Aviodrome
The Fly-ins return to Aviodrome again this summer. Not one, but three weekends during the summer vacations are dedicated to historic aircraft. A number of friendly pilots will visit with impressive aircraft, and there will also be a demonstration on the ground with an aircraft from our own collection. Each weekend will focus on a different theme and a speaker will provide everything with expert commentary.
General manager of Aviodrome Coen Hoozemans: "Every year we look forward to the Fly-in. Due to the success of last year, we have decided to make it three Fly-ins this year. We look forward to giving visitors an impressive and complete view of these historic aircraft!"
ThemesNext Saturday, July 22, the first Fly-in will take place with the theme of Trainers. Several teaching and training aircraft will be on display on this day. Among others, Fokker Four will make a flight with an S.11 Instructor, the North American T-6 Texan and two Yak-52s will stop by. The AIS Flight Academy and Special Air Services (SAS) will be present with training aircraft. The Early Birds Foundation will also visit with several aircraft.
The weekend of August 5 and 6 is dedicated to the operational activities surrounding flying. These include taxiing, marshaling and engine starting. DDA Classic Airlines will stop by with the DC-3 to conduct sightseeing flights. Fokker Four will be present the Sunday and will make flights with the S.11 training aircraft. The SAS will be present both days with the Cessna 172.
Fighters & Friends is the theme for Saturday, Aug. 19, and Sunday, Aug. 20. On Saturday, the two-seat Supermarine Spitfire T.9 from the Spitfire Vintage Everyday foundation will be visiting. The foundation Vroege Vogels will visit with some aircraft and we expect more guests. The Lelystad Airport Fire Department and the Lelystad Volunteer Fire Department are coming to give demonstrations.
Grumman Tracker
All three Fly-ins (except Sunday, Aug. 6) will feature demonstrations with the Grumman Tracker from Aviodrome's collection. The aircraft will not fly, but the engines will be started and the wings folded in and out.
Hoozemans: "In the T2 Hangar, volunteers work hard day in and day out to restore aircraft and where possible get them (partially) operational. Each volunteer does this within their own expertise. We are happy to show this result to the general public!"
Fly-ins are included with admission. Ticket holders of the Museum Card or the Friends Lottery VIP CARD have free admission. It may happen that due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, the Fly-ins do not take place or in a modified version.
