After years of planning and hard work, it finally worked! Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first powered flight in history on December 17, 1903. This happened on the beach at Kitty Hawk in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Man could fly! This first flight lasted only 12 seconds. In it, just under 36 meters were covered at a height of 3 meters. In 1909, Charles de Lambert made the first powered flight over the Netherlands in the Wright Flyer near Etten-Leur. This marked the beginning of Dutch motorized aviation.
