    Crew

In the 1970s, the Saab Viggen is in the race to replace the Royal Air Force's F-104 Starfighters. Saab loses this competition and in 1979 many NATO countries purchase the now familiar F-16. After the first flight in 1967, 338 Viggers are built, exclusively for the Swedish Air Force.

The Saab Viggen (Viggen is Swedish for lightning bolt) is a versatile aircraft. The aircraft can operate from very short runways, with a minimum length of 400 meters. Thus, it can land and take off from highways. With its large delta wings and its higher positioned smaller "canard wings" near the cockpit, the aircraft has been a futuristic sight for years.
