The Nieuport 11 was a French biplane fighter. French naval engineer Gustave Delage began developing observation aircraft just before the start of the First World War. This resulted in the Nieuport 10, which became operational in 1915 and was later fitted with a more powerful engine. The Nieuport 11 was a simplified version of the Nieuport 10 and flew with the French, British and Belgian air forces.
