In 1910, Anthony Fokker left for Germany to train in automotive and aircraft engineering. It was also there that he built his first airplane, the Fokker Spin. However, the very first Spin was destroyed in late 1910 by a fellow student when he drove it into a tree. The second Spin was also destroyed by this student. After this, many more aircraft of this type were built by Fokker. The aircraft owed its name "Spin" to the frequently used wiring that made it look like a spider's web.
