View platform
Spotting planes in action from Schiphol's air traffic control tower 1928.
From the nostalgic control tower, the view of Lelystad Airport's runway is phenomenal. Like a true air traffic controller, you can see sport planes and helicopters coming and going here. And if you're lucky, even larger aircraft, as they come here more often for maintenance.
Safe piloting in
The control tower was once the emergency tower at Schiphol Airport. When the large control tower broke down, air traffic controllers could go to this tower, which was right between the runways. Basically as it is now at Aviodrome. In this way they could still safely guide the aircraft in or send them on their way. The control tower now stands on the observation platform, right next to Lelystad Airport.
Aircraft spotting
Sports and teaching aircraft fly in and out daily, but helicopters can also pass by. And because the stopping distance of the runway has been extended, even the largest planes can now land. Up to even a Boeing 737. So take your camera with you and take pictures of as many different planes as you can. But beware: before you know it, you too have become a born plane spotter.
