Sleeping Beauty arrives at Aviodrome on Sept. 28

The DC-3, purchased by Aviodrome last summer, began transport to Lelystad on Tuesday. The aircraft is expected to arrive at Aviodrome on Wednesday afternoon.

The historic aircraft is not yet airworthy and therefore must be transported by road and water to its new location.

To protect the aircraft during transport, Aviodrome collected mattresses through a campaign. Aviodrome purchased the aircraft from the Dutch Dakota Association.

The route began at Schiphol East with a flatbed trailer over the road. Then the DC-3 was lifted onto a pontoon for the route over water. The route goes over the Ringvaart Haarlemmermeer, the Nieuwe Meer, the Hogemastenroute Amsterdam, across the IJ and then via the Markermeer to Lelystad to the Nature Park. On Wednesday afternoon, the plane will arrive at Aviodrome on a flatbed trailer.
