Mayor Baltus kicks off championship 50th anniversary of Aviodrome

At breakneck speed, Lelystad Mayor Mieke Baltus' own folded airplane flew over the Aviodrome race track today. Exactly fifty years after the day Minister Drees opened the aviation museum, she gave the starting signal for the championship 'Folding and throwing airplanes'.

All visitors to Aviodrome Aviation Museum can compete for the title of 'best airplane folder and thrower of Aviodrome' from Saturday, July 10 until Sunday, August 29. Each week the best three participants will win a prize. The winner of the week wins a round trip in a real airplane.

"Aviodrome is a wonderful museum where stories of aviation pioneers can be seen and experienced. This is precisely why the museum comes into its own so well in this young 'pioneer province'. It is a museum of which I am proud," said Mayor Baltus.
