Aviodrome renovates entire indoor museum with support BankGiro Lottery

Aviation theme park Aviodrome is going to renovate this year. The entire indoor museum will be taken in hand and redecorated. The new exhibit will be named "100 Years of Aviation History. Not entirely coincidentally, 2019 is also the year of the 100th anniversary of civil aviation.

Donation from the BankGiro Lottery

To pay for the museum's renovations, Aviodrome has received a donation from the BankGiro Lottery. On Wednesday afternoon, Aviodrome employees were surprised by Robert ten Brink, ambassador of the BankGiro Lottery. In anticipation of the annual Goed Geld Gala, which takes place February 12, Robert handed over a check worth € 400,000. This donation is possible thanks to over 600,000 BankGiro Lottery participants: half of each lottery ticket goes to culture and cultural heritage. "We are extremely happy with this beautiful contribution, which ensures that we can tackle this project in a big way," said Serena van Kammen, general manager of Aviodrome.

Interactive exhibition

The current indoor exhibition dates from 2003. Over the years it has been expanded with collection pieces, but the basic structure has remained the same since then. Lars Janssen, exhibitions coordinator at Aviodrome: "We are therefore now going to redesign, expand and modernize the exhibition. New presentation methods and more interactivity will be used. In this way we also hope to better reach the young audience and enthuse them about the history of civil aviation. And of course - not forgetting - the Dutch pioneers who played an important role in this."

Attention to all decades of aviation history

In the current exhibit, the last decades of aviation history are given little attention. "That's a shame, because we have enough wonderful archival documents to tell the stories of this era as well. These will certainly have a nice place in the new exhibition," Lars said. The new exhibition presents highlights from 100 years of Dutch aviation history and also pays attention to the future.

The museum will be renovated in 2019. Until the renovation, both the indoor and outdoor exhibits can still be visited as usual and visitors can view more than 100 aircraft, take daily tours and take a flight in one of the flight simulators.
